The Evaluation Report on Disciplines Competitiveness of World-Class Universities and Research Institutions

      Network of Science & Education Evaluation in China and Research Center for China Science Evaluation at Wuhan University launch the Evaluation Report on disciplines Competitiveness of World-Class University and Research Institutions.( Harvard University is still at the first place. Institution of Science in China gets a good order. And Perking University first comes into the top 100. )
 
      On May 6th ,2011, the Evaluation Report on disciplines Competitiveness of World-Class University and Research Institutions is released. The report was developed by Network of Science & Education Evaluation in China and Research Center for China Science Evaluation. The result shows that Perking University has risen up to top 100 from the 155th in 2009 among world universities.
 
       With accordance to the ESI ranking of total cited papers in recent 11 years, there are 1,565 universities in the ranking of disciplines Competitiveness of World-Class University and Research Institutions. On the list, the mainland of China is the 7th, ranking forward five compared with 2009, which advances the fastest in the top 30 countries(regions). Considering the top 600 universities in the world of the list, however, universities in the US, Britain, Japan, Germany, Canada and Italy take up 76% of the top 100,72% of top 200,and nearly 68% of top 300.
 
      The evaluation shows that Perking University has risen up to the top 100 from 155th in 2009.And 91 universities in the mainland have come into the former 1% of 1,565 universities in the world. And 6 Universities , Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Fudan University, Nanjing University, and University of Science and Technology of China have come into top 300.The orders of 7 universities above have few differences from that in 2009.
 
      Universities in China have never come into top 100, which displays our distance from the foreign famous universities.
 
       According to the report, during the process of striding into the queue of world—class universities and research institutions, our institutions should strive to increase papers , improve paper’ s quality, expand our scientific research impacts , enhance our scientific research development power, construct first—class disciplines, understand the world research frontiers, and focus on original research and development.
The evaluation contains 3 categories and 30 rankings, including “Essential index rankings of the scientific researching competitiveness of the world universities in 2011”,“disciplines competitiveness of world universities and research institutions in 2011”(including 22 disciplines)and “the scientific researching competitiveness of the world universities in 2011”(including 7 essential indexes),and meanwhile analyze the ranking of China’s universities among the world universities.
 
      In the ranking of the scientific researching competitiveness of the world universities, there are 91 China’s universities, including 6 from Hongkong, 41 from Taiwan .Universities from the US, Canada, Italy, Japan, Britain, and Germany occupy 76% of the top 100,72% of the top 200, nearly 68% of top 300, and 60% of top 600.There is only one in the top 100,and 7 in top 300.
 
      The evaluated universities are the 1,565 universities whose total cited papers are ranked the former 1% in the world in recent 11 years, 334 universities from the US, 84 from Germany, 112 from Britain, 142 from Japan, 91 from the mainland of China, and 92 from France.
 
      The report says, though the rankings of some universities from China rise, the number of the world finest universities (top 100) and the world famous high—level universities (ranking for 301-600) is small. However has our integrated scientific researching power continuously improved, there is still a big gap between the countries with strong researching power. It can be seen that the great gap exists indeed, the improvement of comprehensive ability of our universities is still a hard and sustainable task.
 
      Research Center for China Science Evaluation says, the purpose of the research about evaluation on disciplines competitiveness of world-class universities and research institutions once two years is putting into effect the related requirements of “National education reform and development of long-term planning programs”,make a full understanding of our universities’ level in the world, and promote the internationalization of our education and R&D. With the international perspective, we concern the development of our higher education and its fallbacks, providing the detailed and exact data and information for the construction of universities with international impacts, carrying out the advanced system and measure to promote our higher education to develop in a healthy way at a high speed.The report will supply positioning information for the contruction of world—class universities, guidances for the students' choice of foreign institutions for their further education, related data for the creative progress of higher education, and quantitative evidence for decision of administration.
